A Little Bit About me and Digital, Fractal, Abstract Art
I always new I was creative but didn't find my real creative expression until later in life. In year 12 I received the art and design award and at 17 my family and I went to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, for a holiday where I had the opportunity to stay with my dad’s first wife in Melbourne (had a ball with her - except for the incidence of me locking us out of the apartment, whoops!) and then decided not to return to Perth before spending the next several years travelling to many beautiful places around the world working as model (another great opportunity I just couldn’t pass up). I only had room for a pack of pencils while travelling and would often draw but after returning to Australia I found a few digital art fractal programs which I fell in love with which has really ignited my creative expression. This is a perfect medium for me as I also am a web designer.
The greatest gift travelling gave me was the opportunity to explore different cultures, ways of living and different visual and emotional experiences. Open eyes soaking up the sites of the old buildings of Milan, the beautiful pink sky's in the Venus late afternoons, the pristine beaches of remote Thai islands, swimming in the underwater world with dolphins (that was an emotional one!) to the amazing raw nature of the African animals and how could I forget, the wonderfully warm and eccentric gay community of Castro - San Francisco. So much inspiration in shapes, colours and emotion, this world has so much to share!
What I love about Abstract Art is that even though it can be seen as something very simple or something that doesn’t really represent anything, it can really draw you in with its colours, composition and mood. If you remove the thought of having to see something in them, often an emotional connection will open up and a feeling will wash over you. That connection varies from person to person as we are all so unique but Abstract Art leaves the door wide open for you to interpret your own story or simply just a feeling rather then being told an obvious visual story.
As I've mentioned the abstract art pieces are created working with a few fractal art programs. The answer to what is Fractal Art is very complicated however the simple version is using a program to create mathematical formulas for textures, shapes, colours etc layer upon layer, tweak after tweak until I find me piece of abstract, digital, fractal art. Perhaps that doesn't sound like there is much of a connection in there but there is. I get completely absorbed in each piece and build on it until I find what I love. Tis my little joy so I hope there is something here that you enjoy too.
